Thanks For Streaming ‘Chess’

Two weeks ago, I released my second single of the year ‘Chess’. The reception has been outstanding and it’s all thanks to those who helped make the recording and release possible.

The song came about around a year go when I was kicking around song ideas for a new recording project. I had just tuned my guitar to D standard tuning and more than anything, was enjoy the sound of strumming open chords on my dreadnaught acoustic.

The song was already completed in my head, but it still wasn’t done on paper. I spent the next several weeks iterating over chess pieces, metaphors, trying to find the perfect way to complete a song I was confident would be a song I’d be playing for a long time.

With the help of a few friends, and some long winded conversations, I had a completed song within a few weeks.

On a rainy Monday afternoon, I visited my friend Kevin Grossman was curious if I was working on any new material. I told him I had just completed a new song and he offered to help demo it.

He set up some microphones and I grabbed my guitar and started strumming. It became what is the current way I played it in it’s final recording. Kevin also played around with his glockenspiel until we had developed horn line.

It was a few months before entered the studio, but the song essentially played itself from there. Some amazing players on this recording such as Cody McCorry, John Kadian, and Rob Butkowski. We recorded this at Dugdeep studios with the help of Roshane Karunaratne who engineered the produced.

All in all, I’m so happy it all came together the way it did and the response we’ve had thus far. I’m looking forward to my next release. Until then!
