Who is Brother Andrew?
Brother Andrew is a touring musician and entertainer from Asbury Park, NJ. As a singer, songwriter and performer his influences range from the likes of Paul Siimon, Harry Nilsson, and Randy Newman.
Growing up in New Jersey, Andrew began performing at a young age in the school choir. These years laid the foundation for a tendency for writing church-like melodies and his balladeering singing style. By the time Andrew reached high school, he had refined his guitar abilities and joined the high school jazz band where he learned basic improvisational skills, as well jazz chords which he would continue to use in unlikely ways throughout his music.
After majoring in Musical History and Performance in college on a swimming scholarship, Andrew moved to Philadelphia where he and his brother lived together and formed the band Underwater Country Club. During this time the brothers produced 3 albums and 2 EP’s.
After years of playing shows and short tours together, the band dissolved as Skip decided to pursue a career in acting. During this time Andrew moved to Jamaica to volunteer as a teacher in a school in Bull Savannah, a remote parish on the island. At the school he taught students guitar lessons after class and due to the fact that most volunteers were actually missionaries, the students incorrectly labeled him as Brother Andrew.
When Andrew returned from Jamaica, he returned to his familiar stomping grounds in Asbury Park, NJ, performing under his new moniker ‘Brother Andrew’.
8 years or so later Brother Andrew has established himself a prolific and reckless songwriter, writing in various styles for various audiences in the range of Indie, Pop, Children’s music, and electronic music. He is a founding member of Mister Tickle Hands alongside his musical partner and co-writer/producer Roshane Karunaratne.
With a list of singles, EP’s that continue to be released, Brother Andrew is also known by his fans for his online skits, and humorous online persona as well as his overly verbose onstage persona that oscillates somewhere between music and stand up comedy.
